Text & meaning

About this text

The repeated phrase ಬೇಗನೆ ಬಾರೊ means ‘come quickly.’ The later selected lines describe Krishna’s yellow garment, flute and sandalwood fragrance. This is not the complete composition.

Study notes

The request

ನೀ (nī) means ‘you’; ಬೇಗನೆ (bēgane) means ‘quickly’; ಬಾರೊ (bāro) is a familiar ‘come.’ The singer speaks directly to Krishna.

In the hand

ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ (kaiyalli) combines ಕೈ (kai, ‘hand’) with -ಯಲ್ಲಿ (-yalli, ‘in’). Compare ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ (maneyalli), ‘in the house.’
